Why do farmers/chicken owners still use flimsy chicken wire for coops?
one of the number 1 reasons for killing Foxes is because owners of chickens complain that the Foxes get through those thing fences and kill the chickens,
So I ask…WHY in the world do they still use that tissue paper wire? why not use something like woods planks or such?
this isn’t about the chickens getting out. it’s about keeping foxes or raccoons from getting in.

Try COST!! Go to the nearest building supply center and figure out the price per square foot to cover an area with….
A. chicken wire.
B. woods planks (pick your poison)

Chicken aren’t known for their Herculean strength and don’t really fly all that much.
Cheaper to use and birds don’t really need a heavy fence for this type bird but you are so right if you have an issue with fox or raccoons or other critters that have a taste for chickens then by all means get a stronger fence for the birds. some critters can dig under a fence so should have a solid floor so none can get under and some just say its a bird so what or so well I have several and mine have a tight heavy wire coop with a cement floor nothing is getting in except maybe a rat or a snake.
chickens are not escape artists. most animals dig under the fence rather than go through it<
We used some chain link fence someone was throwing away once- raccoons climbed right up and over. They couldn’t do that with the cheap stuff. They didn’t get through the electrified razor wire, but did dig under it.
Cost is a concern, but would it really matter? Predators climb, dig, rip, etc. so sometimes the only solution is to get rid of the Predator. I do not agree with killing use a “have a heart trap” then catch and release far away.
